A Wedding Twenty Years in the Making
There are some friendships that shape the fabric of your life so deeply that when a milestone happens, it feels like your own heart is walking down the aisle in a silk dress. That’s exactly how it felt watching my best friend — the girl I’ve laughed with, cried with, lived with, and loved for more than twenty years — get married in her forties.
People say weddings later in life have a special kind of magic. Maybe it’s the lived experience, the emotional maturity, the understanding of what really matters… or maybe it’s simply because we’re too old to pretend anymore. Whatever the reason, her day was an unforgettable blend of elegance, expense, drama, laughter, and pure joy. A perfect reflection of her.
We’ve come a long way from where we started — two young women navigating life’s chaos, and for a short but unforgettable three months, navigating the chaos of sharing a home. Even then she was a force: passionate, fiery, hilarious, and utterly herself. Fast-forward to today, and although she now lives five hours up north, nothing about our bond has changed. We may not see each other often, but the moment we do, the years melt away like we’re still 20-something, living on cheap prosecco and takeout.
Her wedding was everything I imagined… and everything I didn’t. The venue oozed elegance. The décor? Let’s just say she did not come to play — there was glamour in every corner. It was expensive in the kind of way that made you think, “Yes. This is exactly her.” But what made it truly unforgettable was how gloriously her the whole day was.
First, there was the drama. Because with her? There is always drama. The kind that starts with a misunderstanding, escalates into a minor explosion, and is completely forgotten ten minutes later on the dance floor. And yes — there were a few spats. A few tears. A few “Are you actually kidding me?” moments. But honestly? I wouldn’t have had it any other way. It made the day real, raw, perfectly imperfect.
Then came the sweetest moment of all: her dog trotting proudly down the aisle as the ring bearer. Tail wagging, chest puffed out, taking his job more seriously than any human groomsman ever has. It was adorable, pure, and exactly the kind of unexpected joy that only she could pull off.
And the dancing — oh, the dancing. Fueled by champagne and adrenaline, it was chaotic, sweaty, and absolutely brilliant. There was a moment, mid-chorus of a Taylor Swift song (of course), where I looked at her twirling under the lights and thought: She got her love story. She really did.
Her wedding wasn’t just a celebration of romance. It was a celebration of resilience, timing, friendship, and the beautiful truth that life doesn’t run on anyone’s schedule but your own.
And I couldn’t be prouder to have been there for every chapter of her story — especially this one. 💛
